Transportation from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK)

An express and commuter rail service between Suvarnabhumi Airport and downtown Bangkok. Trains travel from Suvarnabhumi Airport, via Makkasan Station, to Phaya Thai BTS station in central Bangkok. It is operates daily from 06:00 - 24:00 hrs. To take the ARL, go to the basement floor of the airport and buy a ticket from the counter or machine. The ARL has 2 lines, the city line which stops at every station on route (costing 45THB and taking approximately 30 minutes), and the express line which stops at only 2 stations (costing 150THB and taking approximately 15 minutes). Both the city line and the express line stop at Phaya Thai station. There are taxis around this area, to take the taxi and go to Mahidol Salaya (costing 200THB and taking approximately 50 mins).

Public meter taxis are available from outside the airport on the 1st floor. Ticket machines give queue tickets with the number of the bay for your taxi. Taxis from the airport charge a 50THB service fee, on top of the meter fare (approx. 600 – 800THB to travel to Mahidol University, Salaya). It is possible to travel on the express way between the airport and downtown Bangkok. The express way will reduce the possibility of traffic, and costs approximately 75 – 100THB (depending on route). The journey will take approximately 1 hour 30 mins to Mahidol Salaya, depending on traffic.

Public meter taxis are available from outside the airport on the on the 1st floor of Terminal 1 Building, Gate 8. Ticket machines give queue tickets with the number of the bay for your taxi. Taxis from the airport charge a 50THB service fee, on top of the meter fare (approx. 400 – 600THB to travel to Mahidol University, Salaya). It is possible to travel on the express way between the airport and downtown Bangkok. The express way will reduce the possibility of traffic, and costs approximately 75 – 100THB (depending on route). The journey will take approximately 1 hour to Mahidol Salaya, depending on traffic.

Public Transportation in Bangkok
BTS sky train and MRT subway, part of Bangkok’s rail transportation infrastructure, are the most convenient way to travel around the city. However, it is advisable to avoid morning rush hour (07:00 - 08:30 hrs.) as these are the peak and busiest hours for train services.

BTS Skytrain has two lines converging at Siam Square: the Sukhumvit line from Sukhumvit Soi 81 to Mor Chit in the north, and the Silom line from the National Stadium to WongWian Yai in the south. It is very convenient and comfortable for travel around the Silom, Siam Square, Sukhumvit and Mor Chit areas, and much quicker than buses.

MRT-Subway runs from the city’s main railway station, Hua Lamphong, under the major thoroughfares Rama 4 Road and Ratchadaphisek Road, and connects several hotels, shopping centres and business districts, as well as the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
