Ph.D. FAQs for Thai Local Applicants


  • Q: Can I apply to the Ph.D. program if I don’t have sufficient English score or the English test score result has not been announced yet?
    A: A Thai applicant can apply for the program even though the English test score result has not yet been announced or the score does not meet the program’s requirements. The applicant should possess good command of English (verbal and written). The admitted student will also have to pass an English examination prior to the proposal of the thesis or project.
  • Q: Can I apply to the Ph.D. program if I don’t have a bachelor or master’s degree in computer science?
    A: Yes, but you should have some computer or IT background such as at least 15 credits in computer or IT-related courses or 2-3 years of experience working with computer or IT. In addition, the applicant should have solid knowledge in at least one of the following areas: database, data communication, operating system, computer development and mathematics. In addition, the applicant should have a strong commitment in conducting research.
  • Q: Is it necessary for an applicant to have programming skills before applying to the program?
    A: Yes, it is necessary because the programming skills will be used for the thesis or project work.
  • Q: Can I apply if my GPA does not meet the GPA requirement listed on the web page?
    A: Yes, you can apply if you have strength in other areas. The admission committee will consider your application in all aspects.

Application process

  • Q: Does a Thai applicant have to submit recommendation letters?
    A: Yes, a Thai applicant has to submit at least two recommendation letters.
  • Q: Are all recommendation letters from the same organization allowed?
    A:The recommendation letters should not be from one single organization.
  • Q: When is the application period?
    A: The admission period for the Ph.D. program is open year-round.
    • Applicants who would like to start the program in the first semester should apply by 31 March. Applicants who would like to start the program in the second semester should apply by 30 September.
  • Q: Do I need to submit the financial statement?
    A: No, Thai applicants do not need to submit financial statement.

Admission requirements

  • Q: What is the admission procedure?
    A: First round interview followed by presentation demo
  • Q: How long is the presentation demo and what are the presentation criteria?
    A: The presentation demo should be around 45 – 60 minutes where 15 minutes are reserved for question and answer session.
  • Q: How do I prepare for the presentation demo?
    A: For an applicant who passed the first-round interview, the applicant must submit an abstract and a PowerPoint presentation on the topic to present to Ms. Paveena Rerkdee ( within a specified time before the presentation date.
  • Q: When and how will I know the admission result?
    A: The admission result will be posted at the website of the Faculty of Graduate Studies ( around 2-3 weeks after the interview according to the Faculty of Graduate Studies’ schedule.

  • Q: What is the total cost of the Ph.D. program?

  • Q: What scholarships are available and what are the terms and conditions of the scholarships?
    A: The Faculty of ICT provides a scholarship to qualified admitted students. The scholarship covers tuition fee, research supplies fee, and research registration fee until the date of degree completion but not more than 5 years.
  • Q: How to apply for a scholarship?
    A: All admitted Ph.D. students will be automatically considered for a scholarship. The applicants do not need to apply for the scholarship.
  • Q: Will all admitted students receive the scholarship?
    A: The Faculty of ICT has a policy to award the scholarship to all admitted Ph.D. students except those who are already receiving funding or salary from an external organization. Admitted foreign students will be considered for the scholarship on a case by case basis.

  • Q: Is this Ph.D. program a full-time or part-time program?
    A: The Ph.D. program is a full-time program.
  • Q: Where do I study?
    A: The graduate students will take classes and conduct research at the Computing Center building, the Faculty of ICT, Phayathai campus.
  • Q: What is the length of time to study until degree completion?
    A: 3 to 5 years

    A: Courses in this program are taught in English. All books and communication are also in English.
  • Q: Where do instructors come from and what are their qualifications?
    A: All instructors received Ph.D. from reputable institutions abroad. The instructors in the program consist of permanent faculty members and adjunct instructors who are experts in their areas of research.
