ICT Mahidol organized a seminar, “Café Seru#8: Toxic Code and Stack Overflow”

On 16 November 2022 – the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Mahidol University (ICT Mahidol), led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanwadee Sunetnanta, Dr. Chaiyong Ragkhitwetsagul, and Dr. Morakot Choetkiertikul, ICT Mahidol instructors and instructors of Software Engineering and Business Analytics Research Clusters (SEBA), organized a seminar, “Café Seru#8: Toxic Code and Stack Overflow” for instructors and students at Room AI2 (MU AI Center), ICT Building, Salaya Campus. This seminar aimed to disseminate research knowledge on Software Engineering, and to form future research collaborations.

On this occasion, Dr. Jens Krinke, Senior Lecturer, Computer Science Department & Director of the Centre for Research on Evolution Search & Testing (CREST), University College London, the United Kingdom, was the guest speaker. During the session, Dr. Jens Krinke shared knowledge and research experience regarding copying code from software projects or online sources, especially Stack Overflow which is the world’s largest community for worldwide programmers. The speaker also stated that codes obtained from Stack Overflow can become toxic code snippets, e.g., being bugged and outdated, or violating the original software license.
