ICT Mahidol, in Collaboration with the AI Engineering Institute (AIEI), Organized the “AIEI Hackathon: AI Innovation for Smart Hospital & Healthcare Service Hackathon 2025”

On September 13 – 14, 2025, the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Mahidol University (ICT Mahidol), in collaboration with the AI Engineering Institute (AIEI), organized the “AIEI Hackathon: AI Innovation for Smart Hospital & Healthcare Service Hackathon 2025”. The competition took place at the Grand Auditorium and Bits & Bytes Hall, ICT Building, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus.

On September 13, 2025, the opening ceremony was honored by the presence of Dr. Pattanasak Mongkolwat, Dean of ICT Mahidol, who officially opened the competition, delivered the welcome address, and expressed gratitude to the project sponsors. The event was moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Tipajin Thaipisutikul, Assistant Dean for Academic Services and Technology Transfer. The event was also graced by the presence of several distinguished guests, including Assoc. Prof. Sasima Eimpunth, M.D., Assistant Dean for Human Resources, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, together with Mr. Pongsathorn Piebpien, Head of Data Health for Analytic Informatics Section, and Mr. Lertboon Siriwat, M.D., Data Health for Analytics Informatics Section, Information Division, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University. Additionally, the event was attended by the executive team and faculty members from universities within the AIEI network.

Following the opening ceremony, the event continued with team-building activities and a preparatory workshop for the students, conducted by Mr. Theerut Winaikosol, Mr. Wanich Jirachaisingh, and Ms. Lalynpat Suwannalert, a team of trainers specializing in Design Thinking. Furthermore, Assoc. Prof. Sasima Eimpunth, M.D., Assistant Dean for Human Resources, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, together with Mr. Pongsathorn Piebpien, Head of Data Health for Analytic Informatics Section, and Mr. Lertboon Siriwat, M.D., Data Health for Analytics Informatics Section, Information Division, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, presented the competition challenges to the participating students at Bits & Bytes Hall. The competition brief was distributed to approximately 60 students from eight universities that joined the hackathon as follows:

  • King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang
  • Chulalongkorn University
  • King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi
  • CMKL University
  • Mahidol University

On September 14, 2025, the event concluded with the final presentations by the student teams, followed by the award ceremony at the Grand Auditorium Hall. The judging panel was honored to include faculty members and staff from Mahidol University, namely Dr. Titipat Achakulvisut, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanapon Noraset, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Ms. Usapan Binsomprasong, Computer Technical Officer, and Mr. Sorawit Kingko, Human Resources System Development Manager, from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital. The committee also included Asst. Prof. Dr. Natnatee Dokmai and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sarun Gulyanon, the faculty members from CMKL University, who served as judges to determine the competition results.

The awards ceremony featured distinguished faculty from Mahidol University and CMKL University, who presented prizes to the top-performing student teams as follows:

  • First Place, with a cash prize of 12,000 Baht, was presented by Dr. Pattanasak Mongkolwat, Dean of the Faculty of ICT, Mahidol University. The award was given to the team ” Hai 2 Ko Sayong Dai,” consisting of the following members:

Following the awards ceremony, Asst. Prof. Dr. Akkarit Sangpetch, Director of the AI Engineering Institute (AIEI), and Asst. Prof. Panarat Cherntanomwong, Associate Director of Partnerships, AI Engineering Institute (AIEI), from CMKL University, delivered a speech to congratulate and encourage the participating students. Subsequently, Dr. Pattanasak Mongkolwat, Dean of the Faculty of ICT, Mahidol University, delivered the closing remarks for the two-day competition.

The “AIEI Hackathon: AI Innovation for Smart Hospital & Healthcare Service 2025” is a competition organized through the collaboration of the AI Engineering Institute (AIEI), a consortium of nine leading universities in Thailand. This hackathon serves as a national-level platform that brings together students from various institutions and disciplines to co-create AI-driven healthcare innovations that address real-world challenges. The competition not only emphasizes the development of AI technical skills, but also fosters an ecosystem of collaboration among researchers, developers, and medical professionals. The outcomes are expected to generate practical research applications and innovative solutions, while advancing AIEI’s mission to build an AI Talent Pipeline and drive the development of smart healthcare innovations in Thailand.
