Smart Gas Consumption Program for Smart Cars

Global warming and the reduction of gas resources are critical problems in the world nowadays. One of the main causes is a high gas consumption rate of road users. In order to alleviate these problems, this project has been initiated with the goals of stimulating car drivers’ awareness of the value of gas resources, and informing users of how to consume gas more efficiently. This project describes the design and development of a mobile application, named the Smart Gas Consumption Program for Smart Cars (SGC), targeted at car drivers. The SGC helps drivers in travel planning by identifying the shortest route with traffic-congestion-avoidance. The SGC also provides drivers with real-time gas price and gas consumption statistics. This information can make the drivers aware of their gas consumption. The SGC works with the Global Positioning System (GPS) and the PostGIS program to identify the driver’s position, and to search for possible routes. In addition! al, Web Services Technology is applied to simulate Gas Price Web Services and Traffic Status Web Services. The SGC runs on a PDA Phone, which allows the users to access the SGC from anywhere, at anytime.
