Nowadays, online services are used in most organizations, and are often used by many people. It is necessary that some security must be implemented to prevent malicious or unauthorized users. Most online services use the simplest form of authentication: username/password login authentication. In addition, a service may allow only a certain class of users to access due to many factors such as the organization’s environment, number of users, and IT cost.
Nowadays, we often find that a service has its own authentication and authorization system. This results in redundant username/password pairs. This environment is inefficient and unsecure for both users and administrators.
We propose a centralized authentication server which provides confidentiality, integrity, and availability to the network. We will use the open source OpenLDAP and OpenSSL software to manage the user directory service securely. Our system would help a system administrator to manage all user information efficiently, and users need to maintain only one username and password pair.
