ABSTRACT

Network topology refers to the characterization of the connectivity relationships that exist among entities in a communication network. Discovering the network layout and interconnections of network elements is a prerequisite to many critical network management tasks, including configuration management, resource management, event correlation and root-cause analysis. Automatically discovering, currently, has typically concentrated on discovering the logical topology at layer 3 using ICMP and SNMP which the network devices support IP setup, whilst the connectivity of all layer 2 elements is ignored.  
The project presents both physical and logical topologies of a network at both Layer 2 and 3. It recognizes the physical network topology at Layer 2, especially and even VLAN configurations of the logical topology by displaying them all in a wide variety of views in graphical form on the basis of the values computed and stored in the database. Moreover, it provides the alert system when it detects of a new address in the network and checks changes made to the topology and route failure, etc
