ABSTRACT

There are two ways to connect to the Internet, wired and wireless connection. The advantages of wireless connection are the support for many users simultaneously and the convenience to connect since it does not require any devices to be a medium for the connection. However, its main disadvantage is the weakness of the wireless signal strength when it has to go through some obstacles like a brick wall.
This project aims to measure wireless signal strength around some buildings within the Salaya campus including the Office of the President, International College, and the Faculty of ICT. The wireless signal strength is collected using NetStumbler, and all data measured are transferred to the database server using VBScript. Subsequently, the data collected are analyzed to count the number of access points found at a particular spot as well as the range of wireless signal strength measured so that the average signal strength of each access point is displayed on the campus map. We found a considerable number of rogue access points, and MU-WiFi network has weak signal strength in some areas.
