ABSTRACT

Mahidol University is conducting to improve the traffic in Salaya campus by deploying trams to the university for reducing the number of private cars, supporting good transportation, and preserving the environment in the university. However, the tram timetables are not available at every tram stop. The passengers still do not know the exact arriving time of each tram and they also have to waste their time for waiting trams. Therefore, we develop A Prototype of Detecting Campus Tram’s Position by Zigbee Wireless Sensor Network or “MU BeeTram” to solve this problem.
MU BeeTram is a system that helps the passengers to travel in Mahidol University conveniently. The idea is to apply the technology of Zigbee Wireless Sensor Network to detect the position of trams. We also provide a website to help users to search tram timetable online and SMS services to inform incoming trams in real time. In our system, there are four main significant features which are Web Management System, SMS Management System, Zigbee Control Terminal, and Zigbee Management System.
With collaboration of four features above, MU BeeTram system can inform the arrival time of Mahidol Tram to passengers in real-time manner by detecting campus tram’s position and sending SMS to passengers. Since this project is still the prototype of detecting tram’s position in Mahidol University, we expect that it can be further deployed in the campus to use at every tram stop in the future.
