Abstract

Wireless is one kind of the Internet networks that is very popular for people who use the internet in these days. Although user may found that the same model of access point can provide different speed, which depends on the current number of users that connected to the access point, throughput, signal strength, and distance between the user and connected access point. Moreover, network connection in Microsoft Windows can only display the information of wireless access point in the range of user and it does not show in real-time, and it usually selects the wireless access point automatically by the highest signal strength.

Therefore our project, “Distributed Wireless Monitoring for Real-time Access Point Selection”, intends to help the user to choose the wireless access point which has the best performance by using the score from our website which is calculated from signal strength that we gather by using NETSH command, number of user, and throughput that we gather by using WMI. The website can show the information in real-time mode, and statistic mode. Moreover the website provides map to show the location of all access points and its information.

WiMore is a program that helps users to select the best wireless access point; the main purpose is to reduce the traffic or workloads in the network to make the balanced network. However, the limitation of the program is it supports only Microsoft Windows7 and Vista. Our program can extends to other faculties or any location where need to balance load among many access points.
