Abstract

The musical instrument simulator (MIS) is a piece of software developed for music learners to help them learn, practice, and plays various musical instruments. It provides virtual instruments which users can play directly via mouse, keyboard, or simulation hardware, music tuners which allow users to tune their musical instruments without buying real tuning devices. It also provides musical instrument information which users can learn about history of each instrument, and playing guidelines for showing users how to play each instrument. Furthermore, users can save their cost of taking music courses that are usually quite expensive, and also save their cost of buying some musical support devices. The MIS, providing a flash-based gui, was developed by using actionscript 2.0 running in form of web application. However, the MIS is to complement rather than to replace the actual practice and learning with the real instruments. It is expected that the MIS will inspire many new learners to be “the quality artists”.
