ABSTRACT
Digital watermarking is a transformation of the commonly used and wellknown paper watermarks to the digital world. Digital watermarking describes methods and technologies that allow information to be hidden, for example, a number of texts can be hidden in digital media such as images, video, and audio. The embedding takes place by manipulating the content of the digital data, that means the information is not only embedded in the frame around the data, but also in the content itself. The hiding process has to be such that the modifications of the media are imperceptible. For image, the modifications of pixel value have to be unnoticed. The objective of the digital watermarking is to protect intellectual properties from the violation of copyright. This research proposes an algorithm, called Wavelet-Based Image Watermarking (W-IWM), applying discrete wavelet transformation technique and adding more security by concealing the embedded location using very strong encryption with this proposed algorithm. The W-IWM starts with the DWT of both host and watermark images. Then, it searches for the location to embed a watermark, embeds the watermark into the host image and encrypts the location file using AES. The extraction process is an inversion of the embedding process. The prototype of the W-IWM has been developed, implemented, tested and analysed. The results show that the W-IWM can embed a watermark into the host image but not decrease the quality of the original image as seen by the human eye. In addition, the algorithm increases more security in keeping the embedded location by applying the AES. In conclusion, it was found that W-IWM could be used to prove the ownership of image by detecting and extracting the watermark from the watermarked image in which its quality is perceptible by measuring with both PSNR value and human judgment.
