ABSTRACT
The Thai language has unique characteristics that make it difficult to verify the language regarding its semantic correctness. Thai tones and positions of tonal marks are vital to such correctness. Placing a tonal mark in different positions on a Thai word may change the word's meaning. As a result, a Thai sentence may be syntactically correct but semantically wrong. This research proposes a way of dealing with Thai semantic analysis and verification by using conceptual graphs to form a network of semantic relationships of the Thai language. CGs is one of the knowledge representation methods in the area of Artificial Intelligence. The combination of logical reasoning, graph-based reasoning, inheritance, and human and computer readability of the graphs provides a powerful expression and reasoning mechanism for knowledge representation. The approach proposed a Thai semantic analyzer engine which used data from three knowledge bases, including concept type hierarchy, lexicon and semantic relation knowledge base, to handle the process of semantic analysis and semantic verification of Thai sentences. In this research, the experiment consisted of two phases including the training phase and testing phase. The training phase was used to train new data into the knowledge base. The testing phase was used to verify the accuracy of semantic analysis and semantic verification of the Thai semantic analyzer. The highest accuracy of the semantic analysis was 88 percents while the accuracy of verification analysis was 94 percents. The accuracy of the Thai semantic analyzer is based on the number of lexicons, semantic relations and concept type hierarchy knowledge base.
