ABSTRACT
This project document describes the design and implementation of a Value-Added-Tax information analysis software system, called H-VAT system. Specifically, the H-VAT system facilitates the analysis of Value-Added-Tax information by integrating a multidimensional database, advanced visualization and Web Service technologies. The H-VAT system provides online analytical processing applications on handheld devices which allow decision makers to conveniently access multidimensional data in a data warehouse. The H-VAT system applied two advanced visualization techniques: the Cube Presentation Model and the Table Lens which are designed as presentational models for displaying multidimensional data and crosstab reports, respectively. The H-VAT system uses the Web Service technology to process multidimensional expressions which are extended in SQL queries. This project is conducted within the context of the Value-Added-Tax information system of the Revenue Department of Thailand. Such a system provides Web-based applications for users to access data from OLAP server via desktop computers. The H-VAT system provides additional features. It allows users to access information from various sources regardless of time and place via portable computers. It applies state-of-the-art technologies to multidimensional data presentations on handheld devices which have limited resources. Software tests the usability and the functionality were used to evaluate the H-VAT system. The evaluation results show that the H-VAT system performed well in both tests.
