THAI BANK NOTE VERIFICATION

ABSTRACT
This research project studied Thai Bank note verification under ultraviolet light. The verification is made on red, green and blue iridescent fibers in the texture of bank notes. The system consists of two major parts, namely, recognition training and recognition testing. The bank note images fed for the first part were those of 500 genuine bank notes while ones fed for the second part included 500 genuine notes and 708 fake notes, totaling 1,208 notes. The learning part was storage of data and features of bank notes in a database that consisted of difference in colors, the width and length of a note, and the number of segmented regions to be used for a comparison with the notes to be verified. Note verification was verification of note value through the reading of note images. In this regard, features of the notes were extracted and the data derived was compared with the data stored in database. Finally, note values were displayed to find out what type of notes they were, genuine or fake. Based on the testing of samples, which were 500 genuine notes, 500 fake notes and 208 comic notes, it was found that 96%, 93% and 58.17% accurate recognition rates were achieved, respectively. The recognition speed for all the notes was 1 note per 0.02 seconds, on average.
