ABSTRACT
This research proposed a fingerprint recognition system call “Modeling on System Authentication by Fingerprint (MSAF)”. The system was developed and applied to control access of restricted areas in the Revenue Department (RD) of Thailand. The system used a technique of image processing, which consisted of 3 major processes, which were: 1) The preprocessing process, the module that reduces the noise of the original pictures and adjusts the sharpness of the lined pattern that is the components of the fingerprint, 2) The feature Extraction process, the module that defines the position of the core point used as a reference point and figures out the position of the bifurcation which is in the boundary for collecting the fingerprint around the reference point (Tessellation); The tessellation is divided into 5 tracks and 16 degrees in each sector and can be used to find the Euclidean distance from the core point to each bifurcation point in order to use it in the pattern recognition, and 3) The fingerprint recognition process, the module for training and testing data by comparing the shape context of each Euclidean distance from the core point to each bifurcation point. After obtaining a complete vector table, the vector table is compared with vector tables obtained from reference images to find the best matching image. The reference image that matches the test image is later used to identify the owner. Based on our experimental results, the MSAF had an accuracy rate of around 93 percent and the average access time was around 20 seconds per image.
