ICT Preparatory Program Framework เกี่ยวกับหลักสูตร

The ICT Preparatory Program

is designed to encourage personal and professional development and actively motivate and prepare students and their families for the university experience academically, socially, and psychologically. Using the Framework for 21st Century Learning, the summer ICT Preparatory Program is further designed to expand the students’ outlook beyond Thailand to the greater ASEAN Community and their role on the larger international stage.

Realizing that many of our students had never studied in an English language environment before entering the Faculty of ICT at Mahidol University and also realizing that our students come from a wide variety of educational backgrounds, it is often essential for them to get a head start on their university studies by taking advantage of the ICT Preparatory Program. The program allows our students to begin bridging the gaps in their knowledge so that when the regular term begins in August, they are more prepared for their studies. It has been our experience that most students who take full advantage of this opportunity are more successful and achieve higher GPAs. Furthermore, the development of social and professional relationships among the incoming students as well as with their upperclassmen peers and instructors is a tremendous help in developing an academic support network. Such a network enables 21st century learners to benefit from the unique knowledge that each and every person possesses.

The Framework for 21st Century Learning describes the knowledge, skills and expertise students must master to succeed in work and life. It presents a vision for 21st century student outcomes (a blending of content knowledge, specific skills, expertise and literacies) and the support systems that are needed to produce these outcomes.

Learning to collaborate with others and connect through technology are essential skills in a knowledge-based economy

  • To encourage, increase, and maintain our students’ motivation and positive attitude to the continued study of math and technology in an English environment.
  • To develop improved language skills by fine-tuning English abilities and developing confidence in both spoken and written communication.
  • To enhance and stress the importance of globalization in today’s world by providing opportunities to interact with the ASEAN and world communities.
  • To nurture our students’ potential through the development their human interactions, social responsibility, and leadership skills.
  • To help in ensuring our students’ success in their university studies as well as in their future careers.

Realizing that many of our students had never studied in an English language environment before entering the Faculty of ICT at Mahidol University and also realizing that our students come from a wide variety of educational backgrounds, we offer several intensive courses before they begin their first term with us. These courses Include math, English and information technology. The aim of these courses is to help our students perform better in their university studies by helping them overcome possible shortcomings from high school, for example, helping a student who studied in a Science-Math program do better in English.

Skills in mathematics and problem solving are important in the development of critical thinking and analytical skills which are essential to the Information and Communication Technology industry. By improving these skills, you are improving your ability to apply creative and innovative technology solutions to problems facing business and governmental organizations. By familiarizing yourself with the basics of computers and programming, you open yourselves up to different computer fields, which then allows you to become more focused in your studies at ICT.
Studying in an English language environment is a brand new experience for the majority of our students, so we also focus a lot on English before the first term begins. The intensive English courses provide a variety of essential English communication skills needed for an ICT student, including conversation, reading and writing. These skills will help them understand their classes better, deal with the larger quantity of English reading material of and improve their overall outcomes.

To help ensure the success of our students we also provide a tutorial in important study skills for university. Studying in an English language environment is very different from studying in one’s native language. Also studying in university, where students are expected to apply what they learn to new situations is very different from high school, where students are often just expected to memorize course material. By giving our students the necessary tools to help them deal with studying in this new and often dramatically different environment, we provide them with these skills to help them develop confidence and better study habits; thereby ensuring their chances of success and increasing their future opportunities in this era of globalization and international alliances.
