2. Energy and Climate Change การจัดการพลังงานและการเปลี่ยนแปลงภูมิอากาศ

The Faculty of ICT pays attention to the energy usage. Several projects are initiated in order to help reduce energy consumption. They are listed as follows:

1. Maintenance of Computer and Classroom devices: Malfunctioned computers and devices in the laboratories and classrooms are fixed in a timely manner to make effective use of resources. Hardware and software malfunctioned computers and devices that are not fixed will be switched off and unplugged to conserve energy.

2. Automatic Lights in Rooms: People sometimes forget to turn off light switches when they leave rooms even when no one uses it afterwards. This results in the wasting of energy, to be specific, the electricity. The objective of this project is to reduce the amount of wasted electricity by employing sensor technology in an effective way to turn the light on and off automatically based on the presence of human being instead of manually turning the light on and off.

3. Dispose When Done: Exhausted batteries are hazardous and not friendly to environment. In addition, some exhausted batteries can still store quite a bit amount of power. In order to reduce the waste of energy and conserve environment, it is desirable to bring back those wasted energy and store the used batteries together for recycle. The objective of this project is to encourage faculty members and staff as well as students to use all batteries to its full potential; that is, until it becomes totally exhausted before they are disposed in the recycle bin for used batteries.

4. Rolling out low-power lamps: Thanks to the recent advancement, energy efficient light bulbs were created and commonly sold in Thailand. The Faculty of ICT replaces almost all light bulbs with the energy-efficient ones (256 bulb locations were replaced) since 2011.

5. Cloud computing: Cloud computing services are deployed in order to reduce the energy use in servers that only run with small number of services. Servers are transformed into virtual servers and combined to run on the same physical servers to save energy.

After deploying various energy efficient projects, the total energy consumption reduces significantly as seen in the figure below:

The faculty of ICT always makes sure that its building have the following the green building elements:

1. The building has natural ventilation.
2. The building uses natural lights in some of its areas (Full day lighting).
3. Reduce its environmental impact such as waste management, construction pollution control, and reducing/removing odor and smoke.
4. Environmental conditions are appropriately controlled such as window films and the temperature of the air conditioners is set at 25 C
