SEBA Research Cluster Information

Focus:

The SEBA cluster will focus on the industry-based problems in software engineering (SE) and business analytics (BA). By leveraging the state-of-the-art techniques in both areas, we can increase the quality of software and business analytics, improve the software development and business analytics processes, and generate the business value.

Current Research Projects:

ASETSI: AUTOMATED SOFTWARE ENGINEERING FOR THAILAND SOFTWARE INDUSTRY

  • Team: Chaiyong Ragkhitwetsagul, Jens Krinke, Morakot Choetkiertikul, Thanwadee Sunetnanta, Federica Sarro
  • Funding: Industry Academia Partnership Programme – 18/19 (IAPP18-19\74)
  • Funding Agencies: Newton Fund, UK, Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng), UK and Thailand Science, Research, and Innovation (TSRI), Thailand

SE4DS: APPLYING SOFTWARE ENGINEERING FOR IMPROVING THE DEVELOPMENT OF DATA SCIENCE APPLICATION

  • Team: Apirak Hoonlor, Chaiyong Ragkhitwetsagul, Morakot Choetkiertikul, Thanwadee Sunetnanta, Siripen Pongpaichet
  • Funding: Mahidol Mini Research Cluster Funding, 2021-2022
  • Funding Agency: Mahidol University

Summary: There has not been a study to identify a framework for applying software engineering to better develop and maintain data science applications.  Thus, this project aims to answer the following research questions.

  • What software engineering modeling, methods, techniques, and standards have been applied in the creation of data science applications (or projects) as recorded in the literature (ACM Digital Library, IEEE Xplore, and Scopus)?
  • What software engineering modeling, methods, and techniques have been directly applied to develop and maintain data science applications by professionals (as seen from the GitHub repositories and the interviews/survey)? And what is their effectiveness?
  • What are the software engineering techniques used to develop and maintain data science applications? What SE framework can be used to better the management and maintenance of the DS projects?

EFFECTS OF COVID-19 TO SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT IN THAILAND

  • Team: Chaiyong Ragkhitwetsagul, Morakot Choetkiertikul, Thanwadee Sunetnanta, Srisupa Palakvangsa Na Ayudhya, Napaphat Satchanawakul

Summary: We study the effects of COVID-19 on Thai software developers to better understand such effects of COVID-19 in Thailand’s context. Due to the different in culture and society, Thai software developers may face different challenges and may need different supports from their organizations during and after the pandemic compared to the Wester culture and companies. This research also aims to further extend the investigation of effects from COVID-19 or similar kind of phenomenon to the productivity of software development teams, and organization.
