ICT Mahidol participated in the opening ceremony of Pornchai Matangkasombut Center for Microbial Genomics (CENMIG)

On 10 November 2020 – the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Mahidol University (ICT Mahidol), led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sukanya Phongsuphap, Deputy Dean for Strategy and Quality Assurance, together with Professor Dr. Peter Fereed Haddawy, Deputy Dean for Research Development, Asst. Prof. Dr. Boonsit Yimwadsana, instructor, and Miss Jarussri Pakkadtang, General Administration Officer of the Academic Services and Technology Transfer Division,  participated in the opening ceremony of Pornchai Matangkasombut Center for Microbial Genomics (CENMIG), established by the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University. All participants were welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Palangpon Kongsaeree, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and the executive team at K102 Conference Room, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, Phayathai campus.

On this occasion, Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, M.D., President of Mahidol University, Mr. Takahiro Morita, Chief Representative of JICA Thailand Office, gave congratulation speeches to the Faculty of Science. Then, Prof. Prasit Palittapongarnpim and Dr. Pakorn Aiewsakun, founding members of the center, relayed the history and work progression of the center to all participants.

Moreover, several interesting special talks were conveyed during the event: “The perspective of the Faculty of Science in development of science in Thailand” by Emeritus Prof. Dr. Pornchai Matangkasombut, M.D., and “Genomics and Infectious Diseases” by Assoc. Prof. Arunee Thitithanyanont, M.D.

The Pornchai Matangkasombut Center for Microbial Genomics (CENMIG) which is located at the 6th floor, Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, Phayathai campus, was established in 2020, under the vision of “Genomics for the betterment of mankind”. The main purposes of this research center are to study genome of the devastating infectious diseases in order to control the spread of them, and to improve the Thai and ASEAN’s capabilities in Bioinformatics.
