ICT Mahidol students have completed their remote summer internship with the Software Engineering research group at Nara Institute of Science and Technology

Tasha Settewong and Natanon Ritta, 2nd year students in the ICT program at the Faculty of ICT, Mahidol University, have completed their summer internship with the Software Engineering research group at Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Raula Gaikovina Kula, Prof. Dr. Kenichi Matsumoto, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Takashi Ishio, and NAIST graduate students in the group. On the ICT side, Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanwadee Sunetnanta, Dr. Morakot Choetkiertikul, and Dr. Chaiyong Ragkhtiwetsagul co-supervised the students. The summer internship occurred from 7 June to 6 August 2021. The Faculty of ICT has offered this summer internship opportunity for ICT students for several years with strong connections with the Software Engineering research group at NAIST. This year summer internship has to be done online due to the effects of COVID-19. Nonetheless, students have shown their efforts and determination and completed the summer internship successfully.

The two students work on a research project to tackle cutting-edge problems in software engineering. Tasha worked on the topic of “Investigating ownership of self-admitted technical debt” while Natanon worked on the topic of “Code stylometry and code authorship”. Both of them have reflected on their internship experience as follows.

“Starting from zero in the software engineering field is the most challenging part of this internship. It is exciting to explore and learn new things every single day. And, If I have a question, I don’t hesitate to ask because I am surrounded by professionals who are always willing to help. I have gained a lot of practical experience thanks to this worthwhile opportunity from this internship with NAIST.”

 — Tasha Settewong

“This internship is a great opportunity for me to learn more about research. I’ve got a lot of knowledge that would be useful for my future work. Thank you to all instructors that support me and make this internship go well.”
